RELIGIOUS orders negotiators admitted yesterday they got a good deal when the Government capped their contribution to the compensation scheme for victims of institutional abuse at just €127 million. The final cost of the scheme could reach €1 billion with the taxpayer footing the overwhelming majority of the bill.
Aside from the contributions cap, the Department also agreed to a total indemnity for the religious orders against any further action by abuse victims and other concessions on acceptance of property previously transferred to the State as part of the package.
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and [that] he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
Matthew 18:1-7

Some photos from Dunlickey, County Clare taken sometime in 2002 with a very cheap digital camera. Hence, the interesting/crap effect. Auto-focus is for wimps.

My grand-uncle was a quartermaster in the IRA during the War of Independence, responsible for the weapons of the local brigade. The story goes that he was so disgusted with the shenanigans that led to the civil war that followed independence that he buried the weapons on the family farm and emigrated to the USA, never to return.
The stash still lies there in some corner of the farm. His sister claims she knows where it is but she’s not telling. So the story goes.
