The Children of Lir at the Garden of Remembrance

…as soon as Aoife saw them out in the lake she struck them with a Druid rod, and put on them the shape of four swans, white and beautiful. And it is what she said: “Out with you, children of the king, your luck is taken away from you for ever; it is sorrowful the story will be to your friends; it is with flocks of birds your cries will be heard for ever.”
Established in 1966 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising. [The Garden of Remembrance] is dedicated to those who died during the struggle for Irish independence.
An Oisin Kelly sculpture is in the park. It shows people from the tragic Irish legend of the Children of Lir, where four children were turned into swans by their stepmother which is an old irish legend. In the centre of the park is a large rectangular pond.
