A Bridge Too Far

I headed over to Newport to grab a photo of the railway bridge. I got a little more than I bargained for. When I arrived the festival was in full swing. The raft race was about to start. In Newport they do the raft race a little differently. Not only do the competitors have to negotiate the rapids and the challenge of other competitors, they also have to run the gauntlet of locals, pelting them with eggs, flour, tomatoes, and other mostly harmless projectiles. And it’s not just the youngsters who are at it. Many’s the second childhood was witnessed. Anyway, a good time was had by all, and when the plumes of flour clouds had cleared, I got my photograph.
