There is no empty space
They weren’t playing chicken, they weren’t over the speed limit, they weren’t “way over the alcohol limit”, they were wearing their safety belts, they weren’t driving on the wrong side of the road, and there is no empty space in the bed where they sleep, nor is there one at the dinner table, nor in the group where they laugh and joke, nor in the arms that console them when they cry, nor in the fragile hearts of those who will love them until they die.
